In September and October 2022, the Developing Art Association brought “Femme monumentale. Femme végétale” to life in Brașov. This project aimed to support, express, and engage with women and adolescents through a series of workshops and street performances led exclusively by female artists.
Five experiential workshops were held, exploring dance, poetry, music, and somatic therapy, providing participants with opportunities for self-discovery and personal development. These workshops, facilitated by artists such as Anamaria Guguian, Irina Marinescu, Oana Băluță, Virginia Negru, and Alexa Papa, aimed to address the cultural, social, and professional changes affecting women today.
The project culminated in three street performances, where artists showcased new representations of femininity at key locations in Brașov. These performances integrated local heritage sites and natural elements, creating a culturally relevant context for artistic expression.
About Developing Art Association:
Developing Art, a cultural association dedicated to facilitating artistic processes for the public, spearheaded this initiative. Through interdisciplinary projects focusing on contemporary dance, mixed media, education, and research, the association aims to promote collaboration and innovation within the contemporary art scene.
About Madira:
Madira, a space dedicated to supporting mothers who are also independent artists, provided a safe environment for movement and professional development through residencies in Schei, Brașov.
About I Dance You:
I Dance You, a community project initiated by independent artist Anamaria Guguian in 2017, promotes dance as a therapeutic practice and an art form for expression and exploration.
Through “Femme monumentale. Femme végétale,” Developing Art, in collaboration with Madira and I Dance You, explored the current cultural, social, and professional landscape and its impact on women’s lives. By providing spaces for expression, engagement, and dialogue, the project empowered women and fostered artistic collaboration and community support in Brașov.
