From November 26th to December 3rd 2022, the city of Timișoara witnessed an inspiring initiative aimed at empowering women and teenagers through art. Femme expérimentale, a project dedicated to support and engage the local female artist and enthusiasts, brought together a diverse range of activities, all designed to foster creativity and self-discovery.
Inspired by Femme monumentale. Femme végétale, a project carried out in Brașov from September to November 2022, which consisted of five free experiential research workshops for self-awareness and personal development aimed at teenagers and women in the city, along with three street performances addressed to the general public, where the project’s artists generated new approaches and representations of femininity.
In Timișoara, the project aims to enhance the capacity for contemporary arts development in the city, offering an educational alternative through experimentation for Timisoara professionals and providing a platform to discuss social aspects concerning local women and teenagers through psychosomatic tools and exploration through contemporary dance and movement. These workshops will be led by the 5 national artists involved in the initiative and a local choreographer.
The event series kicked off on November 26th at 7:00 PM at Teatrul Basca with the performance “Work, Energy, and Emotions Walk Into a Bar” (concept and performance by Irina Marinescu). The show addresses the theme of exhaustion and burnout through the lens of work experiences and the roles we are biologically and culturally invested in, exploring how we invest or receive energy from the activities we engage in and how we perceive emotions in the body.
The free workshops will took place daily from November 28th to December 3rd at FITT and consisted of 4 hours of morning preparation with Timisoara professionals and 2 hours of open sessions for women from the general public in the evening, led by the artists Negru Virginia (contact improvisation and movement analysis), Anamaria Guguian (somatic techniques and dance therapy), Irina Marinescu (performative and sound compositions), Oana Baluta and Ana Dragan (live poetry and color in motion), and choreographer Alexandra Gîrbea (moving art & free dance).
At the end of the project, on December 3rd, the project culminated in performative jam & free dance session with the participating artists, workshop participants, and the general public.
Femme expérimentale is a project implemented by Developing Art, initiated by Madira in partnership with I Dance You, enhanced ny Mulberry Projects and funded by the Municipality of Timisoara, through the Centrul de Proiecte.
